An ORGANIST is required for
Mary, Mother of God,
Catholic Church
in Ponders End, Enfield.
This position becomes vacant at the end of May 2012 when the current
organist moves away from the area after some 16 years in post. The principal
Mass is sung at 11am on Sunday. The organist will be needed occasionally
at the 9.30am Family Mass as well, and for weekday sung Masses on major
festivals and special occasions if possible. The organist will also be
responsible for developing and improving the small choir – who are at
present enthusiastic but not very skilled. Choir practice is at present
on Friday evening after the 7.30pm Mass, but has been on Wednesday evening
on occasions. The organ is a modern Wyvern digital instrument with two
manuals and radiating concave pedal board. There are 8 pedal stops, 11
on the Great and 12 on the Swell with the usual couplers etc, It is situated
in the west gallery which also accommodates the choir. Access to the organ
will be possible for practice or teaching at any reasonable time when
the church is not in use for other purposes, the organist having an entry
key. The organist will have first refusal on weddings and funerals held
in the church and needing an organist.
The 11am Sunday Mass is fairly traditional in liturgy – usually asperges,
incense and fairly traditional hymns. The ordinary of the Mass is normally
sung (Kyrie if used, Gloria, Sanctus/Benedictus, Eucharistic acclamation
and Agnus Dei), together with the responsorial psalm and gospel acclamation.
The hymnal in use is Liturgical Hymns Old and New. There is also a Calamus
license in place enabling additional music to be photocopied for use.
The Missa de Angelis and some other Latin is sung occasionally and is
being developed. The congregation sings quite well and is used to responsorial
music. The Parish Priest is keen that the music should be improved and
developed.
The parish is a busy one, with a mass count of about 1400 at the five
Sunday Masses. The congregation is mainly young families, multi-ethnic,
and with an excellent and closely-associated parish primary school. (For
more details see the parish website: www.mary-mother-of-god.org)
Remuneration is by negotiation with the Parish Priest and will be
in line with the guidelines published by the Diocese of Westminster.
